Bencardino does more than dig dirt! This this week the Bencardino Crew began a new milling project in Trooper PA. The site will be home to an Estes Express trucking terminal which will supplement their services throughout the region. Because of heavy freight loads, traffic and poor of condition of the existing pavement Bencardino was contracted to rip up of the old asphalt surrounding the terminal building. This will ensure the trucks from Estes Express will have a smooth surface to operate on for this new terminal. Using a three man ground crew and a group of trucks the onsite team successfully milled up hundreds of feet of asphalt in the brief time our video team was there. To dig up the asphalt the Bencardino crew used a Wirtgen 200 cold milling machine. The machine is operated by one person and sinks a toothed turbine into the asphalt to dig out a 12 inch layer of pavement that is 6 feet wide. The asphalt is then sent up a conveyor belt and into the bed of dump truck. The old asphalt is then hauled off to a different location and is re-purposed into new asphalt for reuse. The pavement milling is part of larger site remodeling plan for the Estes Express Terminal. While our video team was there we noticed a new gate being put in as well as a work being done in the terminals interior and cannot wait to see the site when itÂ’s finished .
